Born in Marostica, Italy and after serving as a US Marine in World War II, Lee met Delores where he proposed at the Buckingham Fountain in Chicago. After 9 years of marriage and with their fifth child on the way, they decided to purchase property on the East Side. Here they converted a portion of the apartment building into a home for their growing family and launched Lee's Carry Out in the front half.
This small carry out business soon grew in popularity, Lee decided to open a second location in Calumet City for his son,Tom. Tom has been running the family business for over 40 years with the same homemade coleslaw, pan fried chicken and hand battered Lake perch and shrimp. He carried on his father's tradition by always starting with the best quality food possible!
Following his dream to combine his Italian heritage and love for cooking, Tom purchased Avia (meaning "to go" in Italian). Lee's at Avia carries on all the traditions of Lee's Carry Out by welcoming you as family and providing your family and business with a taste of Italy.
